How to Backup Mozilla Thunderbird Email Messages

Step-1: Go to the official website of DRS Softech. Download DRS Thunderbird Backup for Mac. Install the application and run it as administrator.

Step-2: You will see all the mailbox folders of the configured profiles in the Thunderbird application. Tick the desired mailbox items that you want to backup.

Step-3: Double-click on any desired folder to see its emails. Similarly, double-click on any emails to see the message content.

Step-4: Now, expand the list of the Save/Backup/Migrate As field. Select the desired file format/email client from the list.

Step-5: Select PDF file format from the list.

Step-6: After that, tick the Save in Same Folder option. It will save the backup file in the folder containing the source file.

Step-7: The Remove Duplicate Mail option helps you exclude all duplicate emails based on to, from, subject, bcc, and body from the migration. Enable this feature for precise backup.

Step-8: Next feature is the Save PDF attachments separately option. Enabling it allows you to save the PDF attachments into a separate folder at the source file location.

Step-9: Also, If you want to migrate your Thunderbird mailbox without attachment files, tick the Migrate or Backup Email Without Attachment File option. It helps you to create a precise and accurate backup.

Step-10: Select the Mail Filter option to add a date range filter to the migration. Assign a suitable Start Date and End Date to specify the date range. It makes the backup accurate and compact by eliminating unnecessary mailbox items.

Step-11: After that, select the Custom Folder Name option and give a specific name to the folder containing the resultant file.

Step-12: The Naming Convention feature provides you with predefined naming structures. Choose any naming convention as per your requirement.

Step-13: Next, click on the Path to Save button to define the destination path of the resultant file.
Note: You need to disable the Save in Same option (if enabled) to use this option.

Step-14: At last, click on the Convert button to start the migration of your Thunderbird mailbox to PDF file format.

Step-15: After finishing the backup, you will see the backup report. Also, you can download this conversion report as a CSV file by pressing the Download Report button.

Step-16: If you want to backup your Thunderbird mailbox in another file format, click on the Convert Again button.

Step-5: Select Gmail from the list of file formats/email clients.

Step-6: Next, you have to fill in the required login credentials of your Gmail account. Enter the Username and App Password. After that, click on the Sign-in button to log in to your account.

Step-7: After successfully adding your mailbox account, the Gmail option will appear in the Save/Backup/Migrate As field.

Step-8: Tick the Remove Duplicate Mail option for excluding all duplicate emails based on to, from, subject, bcc, and body.

Step-9: After that, the Migrate or Backup Emails without Attachment files option will prevent the email attachments from migration. Opt for this option for exporting only necessary mailbox items.

Step-10: The date range Mail Filter allows you to export emails of a particular date range. Also, enter a suitable Start Date and End Date to specify the date range.

Step-11: Now, tick the Custom Folder Name option to give a desired name to the resultant folder.

Step-12: After that, press the Convert button to start the migration.

Step-13: The migration process will initiate. The time taken will depend upon the size of your Thunderbird mailboxes.

Step-14: After completing the migration, click on the Download Report button to download the conversion report.

Step-15: Press the Convert Again button to migrate your Thunderbird mailbox to another file format or email client.
