Microsoft provides a built-in feature, known as Compact and Repair, in MS Access program to optimize Access’ performance and minimize database corruption. It is strongly recommended to compact and repair file server databases like Access/JET MDB and ACCDB files on a regular time period. Compacting a database also avoids bloating which may occur during the addition or deletion of data in the database file.

As Compact and Repair is a built-in feature in Access, it can be manually performed with ease. Microsoft Access is available with different versions, so the location of this command varies version to version.

Compact and Repair Database in Microsoft Access 2013

There are two ways to use the Compact and Repair feature in Microsoft Office 2013:

Step 1: Launch Microsoft Access 2013 on your system.

Step 2: Go to the DATABASE TOOLS tab > then click Compact and Repair Database. image

Note: You should use this method if database file is not opened.

Another way to use Compact and Repair feature is:

Like Access 2013, there are also two ways to use Compact and Repair feature in Microsoft Access 2010:

Step 2: Go to the Database Tools tab > then click Compact and Repair Database. image

Another way to use Compact and Repair feature is:
