Prerequisites to Enable Your IMAP Account Settings & Create Third-party App Password

The Basic Prerequisites Required for Successful, Swift, and Secure IMAP Mailbox Migration

#1. When you use the Import CSV file option to migrate multiple IMAP accounts, the CSV file must contain the user ID, password, port, and host ID.

#2. IMAP must be enabled in all the email accounts that you want to migrate. It is done before initiating the migration.

#3. For migrating Yahoo Mail and AOL mailbox through the DRS IMAP Backup Tool, you can use their existing app password if you have any. These email providers have discontinued the third-party app login. So, you cannot generate a new app password to sign in to your Yahoo mail and AOL account.

#4. An app password is not required for Hotmail, Outlook, Zoho, GoDaddy, Amazon Workmail, Yandex, and Hostgator. You can log in via the regular login password.

#5. Below we provide you with the IMAP port and Hostname of different email service providers. You will require this information during the IMAP login procedure.

#7. DRS IMAP/Webmail Backup Tool does not support iCloud ID. If you try to add any iCloud email account to the application, it would not verify the account details. However, you can back up your iCloud mailbox data using the DRS iCloud email backup tool.

#8. The application does not support Zimbra account ID.

#9. IMAP settings of the ProtonMail account should be enabled for exporting mailbox data.

#10. Email accounts with the Microsoft Office 365 server domain address can be migrated using the IMAP migration software. Any Office 365 account with a custom domain address like .biz, .com, .info, .me, .mobi, .net, .org, .tv, .co.uk, org.uk, etc is not supported.

#11. In case your mailbox has system-generated emails like Ads, security notifications, etc., all these mailbox items will get migrated according to their time on the server and not as per the time of the user’s system.

#12. The application can back up IMAP emails and attachment files. Other mailbox items like contacts, calendars, tasks, and journals can not be migrated through the IMAP backup tool.

#13. Make sure the Assign Impersonation feature is provided to the selected account when you want to migrate Office 365 Active users' mailbox data. You must provide the required Impersonation permission to enable the application to migrate user mailbox data.

#14. If MS Outlook loads data slowly for Office 365 account, you have to do the following things:

  • Please wait while the application tries to establish a connection with the server.
  • Do not close the IMAP Backup Tool as it may damage the resultant backup file.
